Summer Money for macOS

Your Stripe revenue, live in the menu bar.

Summer Money puts your recurring revenue where you can always see it. Connect Stripe with a read-only key — or enter incomes by hand — and every retainer, subscription, and sponsorship becomes one live MRR number in your Mac's menu bar, with goals, pace, and payment history one click away. No accounts. Your data never leaves your Mac.

How it works.

Summer Money is a tracker, not another dashboard you forget to open. You feed it income — from Stripe or by hand — and it turns everything into one number that's always on screen.

Add your income

Connect Stripe with a read-only restricted key and your subscriptions import as income sources, one-off charges as payments — rate changes, cancellations, and refunds included.

No Stripe, or income outside it? Add any source manually: a name, an amount, and how often it pays. Both kinds live side by side.

Everything becomes one number

Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly — every source is normalized to monthly recurring revenue and summed into your MRR. One-off payments are totaled separately so they never inflate it.

A revenue chart, month-over-month deltas, and yearly summaries all derive from the same records.

Glance at the menu bar

The menu bar shows your number live — MRR, ARR, or goal progress, your choice. Click it (or press ⌃⌥S) for the full picture: this month's change, goal pace, and your next expected payments.

Connected to Stripe? It re-syncs quietly every hour. Nothing to open, nothing to refresh.

Made for mixed income.

Freelance retainers, a SaaS side project, a sponsorship — real independent income rarely comes from one place. Summer Money normalizes all of it to one number.

Lives in the menu bar

Shows MRR, ARR, or goal progress — or just a currency symbol when you're screen sharing. Click for the full picture, or press ⌃⌥S from anywhere.

Any income, any cadence

Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly — every source is normalized to monthly recurring revenue. One number that means something.

Stripe sync, read-only

Paste a restricted read-only key and subscriptions become incomes, charges become payments. The key lives in the macOS Keychain and secret keys are rejected outright. See how it's set up →

Goals with a pace line

Set targets with optional deadlines. Summer Money tells you what monthly growth hits the date — or projects when you'll arrive at your current pace.

History that recomputes

Rate changes, churn dates, backdated starts — the revenue chart derives from your actual income records, so corrections reshape the whole line.

One-off payments too

Setup fees, project work, lifetime deals — logged and totaled separately, so they never inflate your recurring numbers.

Connect Stripe in about two minutes.

Summer Money never asks for your secret key — it can't accept one. You create a restricted key in your Stripe dashboard that can read your revenue and do nothing else, and paste it into the app once.

  1. Create a restricted key

In your Stripe dashboard, go to Developers → API keys → Create restricted key. Name it something you'll recognize later, like Summer Money.

  2. Grant read access to five resources

Set these to Read and leave everything else at None — Summer Money never writes to your Stripe account, so it doesn't need more:

    • Customers Read
    • Subscriptions Read
    • Invoices Read
    • Charges Read
    • Products Read
  3. Copy the key

Click Create key, then copy it. Restricted keys start with rk_live_ (or rk_test_ for test mode — Summer Money accepts both and shows a badge when you're on test data).

  4. Paste it into Summer Money

Open Summer Money and click Connect Stripe — it's the first thing you see in a fresh install, or anytime under Settings → Stripe. Paste the key and hit Connect.

If you accidentally paste a full secret key (sk_…), the app refuses it outright.

  5. Review and import

Summer Money shows you everything it found — each subscription with its amount and start date, plus one-off charges — before importing anything. Uncheck what you don't want, link a subscription to an income you'd already entered by hand, and import.

From then on it re-syncs automatically about once an hour: new subscriptions appear, price changes update your rate history, and cancellations end the income on the right date.

Where the key lives

In the macOS Keychain — never in a file, never on a server. The app talks only to api.stripe.com, directly from your Mac, and only ever reads.

Change your mind anytime

Revoke the key from your Stripe dashboard whenever you like — the app keeps working with the data it has.

Or disconnect from Settings and choose: keep imported incomes as manual entries, or remove them entirely.

No Stripe? No problem.

Stripe sync is optional. Manual entry is first-class — add a source with a name, amount, and cadence, and log one-off payments as they arrive. You can also import payments from any CSV.

No accounts. No server. No analytics.

Your numbers are a JSON file on your Mac — back it up, export CSVs, or open it in a text editor whenever you like.

The app makes no network requests of its own. If you connect Stripe, the only traffic is direct calls to api.stripe.com with your own read-only key, stored in the macOS Keychain — never in a file, never on anyone's server.

The fine print, all of it: the video has to actually show Summer Money running. Views are counted 7 days after posting, on one video, on a public account. One video per purchase — hit 2k and claim half, and if the same video reaches 20k within the window, email again for the rest. Claim within 30 days of posting by emailing jude@micah77.org with the video link and your Stripe receipt. Refunds are processed by hand, usually within a few days. Botted views get you nothing.

Questions

Do I need Stripe?

No. Manual entry is first-class — add incomes with a name, amount, and cadence and you're done. Stripe sync is there if you have subscription revenue you'd rather not retype.

How do I connect Stripe?

Create a read-only restricted key in your Stripe dashboard and paste it into the app — the step-by-step guide above walks through it, including exactly which permissions to grant. It takes about two minutes, and the app rejects full secret keys (sk_…) so you can't over-share by accident.

Is my revenue data safe?

It never leaves your Mac. There's no account, no sync service, and no analytics. The data file lives in ~/Library/Application Support and you can export a full JSON backup any time. If you connect Stripe, only a read-only restricted key is accepted, and it's stored in the macOS Keychain.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Mac on macOS 11 Big Sur or later — Apple Silicon and Intel, one universal app. It's a 12 MB download and idles quietly in the menu bar.

How do updates work?

The app checks for updates and installs them in one click. Updates are free — $9 is the whole price.

Can I really get it for free?

Yes. Post a video that shows Summer Money — if it hits 2,000 views in 7 days you get half back, and at 20,000 views you get a full refund. The details are above. Plenty of first videos clear 2k; 20k is very doable if the clip lands.

What if it's not for me?

Email jude@micah77.org within 14 days and you'll get a refund. No forms, no questions.
